Avengers: Doomsday may have begun filming, but that doesn’t mean that the Marvel Cinematic Universe crossover movie has a finished script.
On Monday, April 28, Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo confirmed the start of filming for the latest Avengers movie, sharing a photo of a director’s chair with the name “Victor Von Doom” written on it. The start of production comes almost a month after Marvel Studios’ highly-viewed casting live stream that announced the first 27 actors who will be appearing in the epic crossover event.
However, while filming has indeed begun, a key element of the movie is still being worked on — the script, which is being penned by returning MCU screenwriter Stephen McFeely. According to scooper MyTimeToShineHello, “To answer everyone’s question: yes, there is a script, but they’re going to keep rewriting it every day on set because it’s not done DONE. Like it’s not as good as they would want it to be.”
Why is the Avengers: Doomsday script not finished?
While MyTimeToShineHello claimed in his post that Marvel Studios simply wants the best version of Doomsday possible, another notable scooper, John Rocha, has chimed in with a different reason why the Avengers sequel’s script isn’t 100% done.
“This is what [Jeff Sneider] has been reporting for WEEKS on THE HOT MIC and in his newsletter. The [Doomsday] script ain’t DONE done because they haven’t closed all the deals with all the people who’ll be appearing in it. An interesting way to make a movie,” Rocha wrote on X.
Much has been written about Doomsday’s casting announcement live stream missing key MCU actors, like Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye, and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, to name a few. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has stated that they did not disclose the names of all Doomsday cast members, meaning that fans should expect further casting announcements in the future.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
