Avengers: Doomsday Could Give Thor a ‘Proper Send-off’ After Love and Thunder Backlash

With Thor: Love and Thunder not the send-off fans were expecting for the God of Thunder, Marvel Studios is reportedly planning on giving Chris Hemsworth‘s superhero a proper farewell in Avengers: Doomsday.

Hemsworth’s Thor became the first Marvel Cinematic Universe hero to receive a fourth solo film, with Thor: Love and Thunder hitting theaters in July 2022. While the sequel was a box office success, grossing over $760 million worldwide, both critics and fans viewed Love and Thunder as being inferior to the previous installment, 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok.

Avengers: Doomsday might give Thor the send-off Love and Thunder never did

With Avengers: Endgame giving Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Chris Evans’ Captain America a proper end to their respective MCU journeys, fans expected more from Thor: Love and Thunder. According to Lizzie Hill of The Cosmic Circus, Marvel has reportedly listened to fan complaints about the 2022 MCU movie and wants to give Hemsworth’s Thor “a proper send-off” in the upcoming Avengers: Doomday and Avengers: Secret Wars.

“From what we’ve heard, Thor will reunite with Loki at some point during these films. And he’ll essentially be one of the last OG Avengers remaining,” Hill reported. Sources have indicated to Hill that New Avengers (Vol. 3) #32 will be used as inspiration for the “epic” send-off Marvel is planning for Thor.

Hill also doubled down on her co-worker Alex Perez’s previous scoop that Secret Wars will bring “Thor Corps, as well as other parts of Thor’s mythology from the comics,” into the MCU.

Filming is currently underway on Avengers: Doomsday, with directors Joe and Anthony Russo at the helm. This will mark their fifth feature for the MCU after Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019). While plot details remain under wraps for Doomsday, the movie will see the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Avengers join forces to stop Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
