Ben Mendelsohn Doctor Doom

Captain Marvel’s Ben Mendelsohn Wants to Play Doctor Doom

Ben Mendelsohn really, really wants to play Fantastic Four’s Doctor Doom.

In a recent interview with GQ Magazine, Mendelsohn was asked if there are any “big properties” — be it Star Wars, Batman, or the MCU — that he’d ideally like to return to star in.

“I would almost give my eyes and teeth to play Doctor Doom,” Mendelsohn answered. “I think Doctor Doom is the great unread Marvel character that could and should be done.”

He added, “But it is what it is. I got to work with Spielberg, and I got to work with Terrence Malick, and I got to work with Ridley Scott. It’s been incredible. I didn’t think this ship was coming.”

What Star Wars, Batman, and Marvel characters did Ben Mendelsohn play?

Mendelsohn made his MCU debut as a Skrull named Talos in 2019’s Captain Marvel. Following an uncredited cameo in a post-credit scene featured in 2019’s Spider-Man: Far From Home, the actor reprised the role in the 2023 Secret Invasion miniseries.

Mendelsohn played John Daggett in 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, which was directed by Christopher Nolan, and starred as Orson Krennic in 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. For Spielberg, Mendelsohn played the villainous Nolan Sorrento in 2018’s Ready Player One, while he worked with Scott on 2014’s Exodus: Gods and Kings.

There’s been no official announcement regarding who will play the infamous Doctor Doom in the MCU, though there’s been no shortage of online rumors suggesting everyone from Jon Hamm to Mads Mikkelsen may be considered for the role. Doctor Doom will presumably make his MCU debut in 2025’s Fantastic Four, which is being directed by Matt Shakman, though this has also not been confirmed at this time.

Fantastic Four releases in the United States theaters on May 2, 2025, from Marvel Studios.
