Hugh Jackman Embarks on a Memory Journey in Reminiscence Trailer

HBO Max has debuted the official trailer for Reminiscence. The upcoming sci-fi movie comes from Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy and sees X-Men alum Hugh Jackman as Nick Bannister, a private investigator of the mind. If the description rings a bell, it’s because the story seems to pay homage to Inception, by Joy’s colleague Jonathan Nolan’s brother Christopher. The movie involves a dystopian future where people take shelter in memories to evade their dull reality. Bannister accepts a new case, and his reality changes forever. This subsequently forces him to investigate himself, and his love interest, portrayed by Rebecca Ferguson.

The official synopsis for Reminiscence reads:

Nick Bannister (Hugh Jackman), a private investigator of the mind, navigates the darkly alluring world of the past by helping his clients access lost memories. Living on the fringes of the sunken Miami coast, his life is forever changed when he takes on a new client, Mae (Rebecca Ferguson), and a simple matter of lost and found becomes a dangerous obsession. The film also stars Thandiwe Newton, Cliff Curtis, and Marina de Tavira. Additionally, Daniel Wu, Mojean Aria, Brett Cullen, Natalie Martinez, Angela Sarafyan and Nico Parker have roles.

Reminiscence will hit both theaters and HBO Max starting Aug. 20.
