Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam Movie Adds Marwan Kenzari
It’s been a few months since we’ve heard any Black Adam casting news. But earlier today, word broke that the Dwayne Johnson starrer has landed an actor who definitely knows his way around an action fantasy. The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Marwan Kenzari has secured a mystery role in the upcoming DC film.
Kenzari mostly appeared in Dutch movies before finding a new audience in America with roles in the 2016 Ben-Hur remake and The Mummy reboot in 2017. However, he is best known for playing Jafar in Disney’s live-action Aladdin film in 2019. Last year, Kenzari appeared opposite Charlize Theron in The Old Guard, which was released on Netflix.
It’s a little strange that New Line is keeping the nature of Kenzari’s character a secret for now. After all, the studio hasn’t had any problems with sharing more details in other recent casting announcements. Regardless, this leads us to believe that Kenzar is playing a more significant role, such as the movie’s villain.
Johnson previously confirmed last summer that Black Adam would also feature a four-person incarnation of the Justice Society. The filmmakers have since filled out this roster with Noah Centineo as Atom Smasher, Aldis Hodge as Hawkman, and Quintessa Swindell as Cyclone. Dr. Fate is also supposed to appear. But if Kenzari was playing Dr. Fate, the studio would have probably said as much.
Jaume Collet-Serra is directing Black Adam, while Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani wrote the script. New Line originally planned to release the film in December of this year. Unfortunately, the COVID-19 outbreak delayed its premiere, and the studio still hasn’t set a new release date.
