Harry Lennix Details His Mo-Cap Experience on Snyder’s Justice League
There are plenty of reasons to be hyped for the release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League on HBO Max next month. However, some fans are eager to watch Harry Lennix suit up as Martian Manhunter in the film. Snyder hasn’t offered a proper glimpse of the character just yet. But now we have a better idea of how the movie’s visual effects department brought him to life.
Lennix previously revealed that he shot new scenes for Snyder’s cut of the DC team-up film in front of a green screen last fall. But while chatting with ComicBook.com, Lennix confirmed that he wore his own motion capture suit to play J’onn J’onzz in his true form. However, the character’s appearance is a mystery even to him.
“Mo-cap,” said Lennix. “I don’t know what I’m going to look like. I don’t know what the body is going to look like and all that, but I’m thrilled to see it. That guy’s probably in good shape, for example. Honestly, I don’t know if it’s reverse engineering, but I had the mo-cap [suit] on myself and I did the thing.”
Motion-capture seems to be the only way to do Martian Manhunter justice on the big or small screen. The same technology is used to turn David Harewood into the character on The CW’s Supergirl. Although judging by images Harewood has shared on social media in the past, it looks like the series’ VFX crew only has to put tracking dots on his face in order to render their version of the character. Suffice it to say, Snyder probably has a bigger budget to work from than any of the Arrowverse shows.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League hits HBO Max on March 18.
