Comic-Con 2019

San Diego Comic-Con@Home Begins on July 22

Nearly two months after the coronavirus pandemic forced Comic-Con International to scrap this summer’s biggest comic convention, the organizers are reworking the event into something that anyone can partake in. And as dictated by the new status quo, you won’t even have to leave your house. CCI has just announced that San Diego Comic-Con@Home will take place from July 22-26.

CCI previously teased Comic-Con’s virtual replacement with a video posted last month. But today, the organization shed new light on what to expect from this iteration of the annual festival. In a new press release (via CBR), CCI is promising an online Exhibit Hall where patrons can take advantage of promotions, specials, and limited-edition products. There will also be a Masquerade and gaming activities for fans to connect with each other.

Of course, it wouldn’t be Comic-Con without panels that spotlight upcoming comic, film, TV, and gaming releases. Fortunately, it sounds like those will still happen in some capacity. It isn’t clear which publishers or studios will have a presence at this year’s convention. However, CCI will announce more details as the event draws nearer. Throughout the four-day stretch, fans are also encouraged to use the official #ComicConAtHome hashtag to join virtual activities

“For the first time in our 50-year history, we are happy to welcome virtually anyone from around the globe,” SDCC spokesperson David Glanzer said in a statement. “Though stay-at-home conditions makes this a very difficult time, we see this as an opportunity to spread some joy and strengthen our sense of community.”
