The New Mutants Director Confirms New Trailer For January 6

It’s been a long road for Fox’s adaptation of The New Mutants. The X-Men spinoff film was originally supposed to hit theaters in 2018 before getting pushed back two years. This film also has the unexpected distinction of being the last Marvel movie produced by Fox before Disney took over the studio. That’s why it has frequently been rumored that The New Mutants would quietly get dumped onto Disney+ rather than get a theatrical release.

More recently, New Mutants director Josh Boone has assured fans that the film is back on track. He also shared a post on Instagram that confirmed the arrival of a new trailer on January 6.

Anya Taylor-Joy stars in the film as Illyana Rasputin A.K.A. Magik. Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) co-stars as Rahne Sinclair/Wolfsbane, with Stranger Things‘ Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie/Cannonball.  Blu Hunt also stars in the film as Danielle Moonstar/Mirage, alongside Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa/Sunspot, and Alice Braga as Cecilia Reyes.

Additionally, the script was co-written by Boone and Knate Lee. It will reportedly be based upon Chris Claremont and Bill Sienkiewicz’s classic story, “The Demon Bear Saga.” Supposedly the film will also play up the horror aspects of that tale. However, it’s unclear if the planned reshoots were ever made. It’s also very unlikely to get a sequel, since Marvel Studios will handle all future X-Men related films.
