Yeoh got her star status way back in the ’90s with films like Twinkle Twinkle Lucky Stars and Supercop. She also has a recurring role in CBS All Access’ Star Trek: Discovery and she was one of the starring players in Crazy Rich Asians and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Yeoh still likes to do some fighting, as she recently demonstrated in the martial arts film, Master Z: Ip Man Legacy.
“Throughout her career, Michelle has always created unique and memorable characters,” said Cameron in a statement. “I look forward to working with Michelle to do the same thing on the Avatar sequels.”
Yeoh is one of several new cast members making their Avatar debut, including Edie Falco, Kate Winslet and David Thewlis. Returning stars Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang are also back on board.
The first of the Avatar sequels will arrive on December 18, 2020.
