Check Out a Captain Marvel Scene Breakdown and New Clip

Warning: The following contains possible spoilers for Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel is mere hours away from hitting theaters. But in case you haven’t had your fill of teasers, we’ve got you covered. Fandango has debuted a new video featuring writers and directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck dissecting what looks like a pivotal scene in the new film. Additionally, Marvel has premiered a new clip (via ComicBook.com) featuring Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, and Clark Gregg. Both can be viewed below.

In the scene breakdown, Boden and Fleck walk viewers through a brawl between Jackson and Ben Mendelsohn. Of course, Mendelsohn is playing the Skrull leader Talos in the film. But the clip seems to confirm that he’ll have a second role as Keller, one of Nick Fury’s S.H.I.E.L.D. superiors who is actually Talos in disguise. And since Captain Marvel depicts Jackson’s Fury as a S.H.I.E.L.D. novice, Talos has no problem besting him in a fistfight.

“What we love about Ben in this movie is that he’s such a fun villain,” Boden said. “He has a little bit of attitude and a little bit of humor. And we really let him kind of go for it and just bring all of his personality to the role.”

Boden also touched on the amount of work that went into crafting Carol Danvers’ photon blasts, especially when it comes to differentiating them from Iron Man’s repulsor blasts. “Her blasts are organic,” Boden continued. “They come from within her. We wanted it to have more of an organic and less of a mechanical sound. It took us a long time developing the look of those photon blasts. [They’re] kind of organic and wave-like, but we wanted it to still have the depth and power of something that’s super propulsive.”

The scene also boasts an appearance by Gregg’s Phil Coulson, prompting Boden to comment on his role in the film. “He has a small part in the movie,” Boden admitted. “But it’s so important because one of the really fun things about this movie is that it’s also an origin story for Nick Fury and Coulson and their friendship that you’ll get to see in the other movies like Avengers.

The other new clip showcases a more confident-looking Fury attempting to exert his authority over Danvers. This obviously can’t end well for the future director of S.H.I.E.L.D. However, there’s no denying that the witty banter between the two characters allows both actors to shine.
