Birds of Prey Casts Charlene Amoia as Huntress’ Mom

Next year, Mary Elizabeth Winstead’s Huntress will join forces with her fellow costumed heroines in Birds of Prey. However, it looks like Huntress will have some heady family drama to deal with as well. Deadline is reporting that Charlene Amoia has joined the cast as Helena Bertinelli’s mother, Maria.

Previously, Amoia had a recurring role on How I Met Your Mother. She played Wendy, a waitress at the bar frequented by the series’ main characters. Amoia also guest-starred in an episode of The Flash. Additionally, she had minor roles in American Reunion, Grey’s Anatomy, and General Hospital.

Within the DC Universe, Maria was married to Franco Bertinelli, a powerful mafia boss. Helena’s parents were killed by a rival crime family, and she vowed revenge.  She eventually adopted the Huntress persona to carve out her reputation in Gotham City. It’s unknown if Birds of Prey is depicting Helena’s origin in real time or if Amoia’s character only appears in flashbacks. However, the film’s story could break with the comics and make Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask responsible for her parents’ murder.

Warner Bros.recently announced its start of production with a video showcasing several actors in costume.  Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in the movie. Jurnee Smollett-Bell co-stars as Black Canary, with Ella Jay Basco as Cassandra Cain, and Rosie Perez as Renee Montoya. Cathy Yan is directing the film.

Birds of Prey will hit theaters on February 7, 2020. What do you think about Charlene Amoia playing Huntress’s mother in the movie? Give us your impressions in the comment section below!
