Season 3 of Jujutsu Kaisen is out on Crunchyroll, and fans have finally gotten their first look at the mysterious Master Tengen. Tengen was heavily mentioned in the Hidden Inventory arc, but didn’t appear physically. However, the character appears physically on screen as Tengen plays a significant part in the Culling Game arc.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3’s Master Tengen explained
Episodes 1 and 2 of Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 dropped on Crunchyroll on January 8, 2026, and have fueled fans’ curiosity about the character of Master Tengen.
Voiced by Yoshiko Sakakibara, Master Tengen was first mentioned in the Hidden Inventory arc, in which he was supposed to be merged with Riko Amanai, who was called the Star Plasma Vessel. Tengen is described as an immortal being who requires a merger with a Star Plasma Vessel every 500 years to prevent it from evolving into an evil curse. However, that plan failed with Riko’s death.
Although they are mostly shown to be sealed in the Tombs of the Star Corridor, in Season 3, Tengen becomes a major part of Kenjaku’s plan. Based on the description of Tengen’s early days, they have lived for centuries and were once a young girl who preached a teaching that now forms the modern foundation of Jujutsu sorcery.
In the recently released Culling Game arc, Tengen will be approached by Yuji’s group to speak about the Culling Games. They convey that the Culling Games will allow Kenjaku to collect cursed energy and then merge with Tengen itself, changing the Jujutsu world completely. While they are having a conversation, Kenjaku also confronts Tengen, and they engage in a fight, while Choso and Yuki attempt to protect Tengen. However, the fight ends in Kenjaku’s favor, and he takes over Kenjaku. Episode 3 is yet to be released on Crunchyroll.
