Viewers are curious to know whether It: Welcome to Derry Season 2 has been renewed or canceled by HBO. Based on Stephen King’s 1986 novel, the supernatural horror series takes place in 1962, when a couple, along with their son, relocates to Derry. However, bad things start to happen upon their arrival. With the series having concluded, many are eager to know whether another installment is in store.

Has HBO canceled It: Welcome to Derry or renewed it for Season 2?

HBO hasn’t officially renewed or canceled It: Welcome to Derry Season 2. However, there are chances that it might happen, given co-creator Andy Muschietti’s earlier comments.

In conversation with Variety, Muschietti revealed that he has planned three seasons for the series, exploring more of Maine town and the origins of Pennywise’s curse. He said, “Our big story arc involves three seasons, mainly based on the three critical cycles of Pennywise, which are 1962, 1935, and 1908.”

He further reveals that the series looks forward to exploring the lore hinted at in the book. When he opened the interludes, he realized that there was a “hidden story” in the clues King left behind, which he believed could make a good plot. He described the series as “It’s a story told backwards.”

In another interview with SFX, he also revealed how Season 1 intends to set up the follow-up installments. “You also get a glimpse into a bigger mythology for people who love the book or love the movies. We’re opening a window. Everything that we are setting up in season one, that will really manifest in two and three, is a look into all the bigger questions about It,” he added. (via Games Radar)

Moreover, recently, while speaking with Cinepop, Muschietti said that the show is intended for a three-season run. “Our intention is to complete this big story, which is the 3 seasons of Welcome to Derry, which is a story in itself… So yeah, a lot more story to cover,” he said.

So, if a Season 2 happens, it could likely take a time span between 18 and 24 months, as usual, large-scale production series do. This means another season could come out on HBO sometime in 2027.
