It: Welcome to Derry’s latest episode introduces horror fans to the actual Bob Gray. Known as the “Pennywise the Dancing Clown” of the early 1900s, Bob’s backstory is heartbreaking. He is a widower and the sole caregiver to his daughter, Ingrid, clinging to his tattered dreams. The spin-off stitches a haunting past.
The heartbreaking flashback shows Bob Gray tenderly promising Ingrid. “When the big tops come a-calling again, you’ll be ‘Periwinkle’, sidekick to my Pennywise.” Her mother once filled the role during their circus-act days.
The episode further shows, Bob sipping on a beer, his red wig hung like a discarded mask on the fence. Director Andy Muschietti had hinted about the reveal in an interview with SFX magazine, saying, “You get a glimpse into a bigger mythology for people who love the book or love the movies.
