Has Netflix canceled The Witcher or renewed it for Season 5?
Netflix has renewed The Witcher for a Season 5, citing it to be the final season.
In 2024, showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich released a statement to give a production update on the final season. The statement read, “It is with huge pride that we begin shooting our penultimate season of The Witcher with a stellar cast, including some exciting new additions, led by Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia.”
Expressing gratitude for the chance to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to life, the statement continued (via The Hollywood Reporter), “We’re thrilled to be able to bring Andrzej Sapkowski’s books to an epic and satisfying conclusion. It wouldn’t be our show if we didn’t push our family of characters to their absolute limit — stay tuned to see how the story ends.”
During Season 4’s production, Netflix also took to X (formerly Twitter) to confirm that they’re currently developing Season 4 but are planning for a follow-up season too, which would be their last. Netflix wrote, “It’s official, The Witcher season 4 is in production. But that’s not all, we’re already planning season 5, which will be the final season and bring this epic show to a fitting conclusion. See you on The Continent.”
Seasons 4 and 5 see Liam Hemsworth stepping into Henry Cavill’s shoes as Geralt of Rivia. Cavill’s role was reportedly recast due to conflicts and creative differences with the show’s writers over the source material. He also left the series to pursue other projects.
