Do Victor, the Creature, and Elizabeth live or die in Frankenstein’s ending?
Released on October 17, Netflix’s Frankenstein is Guillermo del Toro’s adaptation of Mary Shelley’s novel of the same name. It features Oscar Isaac as Victor Frankenstein, Jacob Elordi as The Creature, and Mia Goth as Elizabeth.
The story follows Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist who sets out to conquer death after the loss of his mother. He tries to reanimate corpses using electricity. After many failed attempts, he creates the Creature by assembling body parts from different corpses.
The story also features an emotional bond between two characters. The love story centers on an unexpected connection between Elizabeth Lavenza and the Creature. Unlike Victor, Elizabeth shows compassion toward him. Victor doesn’t take their growing bond well and realizes that creating the monster was a mistake.
Elizabeth meets her tragic fate when Victor finds her with the Ceature. Consumed by jealousy, he tries to shoot the Creature. However, in the chaos, Elizabeth gets shot. She dies with the Creature by her side.
Meanwhile, Victor meets his end in the Arctic. After being pursued by the Creature for a long time, Victor succumbs to his injuries in front of his own creation. In his final moments, he confesses his regrets and asks for forgiveness from him, who grants it.
On the other hand, the Creature survives. Instead of dying or committing suicide as in some previous versions, he is left alive and immortal due to Victor’s experiments. In the end, despite the suffering, the Creature is inspired to live his life.
