Peacemaker Season 2 has easily cemented itself as one of the most celebrated superhero shows in recent memory. The eighth episode dropped last week, leaving fans excited and wondering if another one would follow this week.
Unfortunately, there won’t be a Peacemaker Season 2, Episode 9 airing on October 16.
Here’s everything we know so far.
Why Peacemaker Season 2 will not air a new episode on October 16
Peacemaker Season 2 won’t release a new episode on October 16 because the season has officially concluded. The creators planned this season for eight episodes, and they delivered exactly that.
Just like the first season, Season 2 followed the same structure. The first season was also a major hit. Season 2 maintained that format with eight episodes. Each one delivered plenty of action.
During a recent podcast with Jennifer Holland (Harcourt) and Steve Agee (Economos), Peacemaker creator James Gunn shared his thoughts on the show’s future. Toward the end, he said he “just loves the Peacemaker show” and thanked fans for their support.
While Gunn didn’t confirm another season outright, he teased, “We have to see in what form. We have plans.”
For those unfamiliar, Peacemaker Season 2 connects closely to Gunn’s upcoming Superman movie. The events in the show occur shortly after the movie’s timeline. The new season also explores the concept of the multiverse. This suggests that Gunn may expand on that idea in future DCU projects.
Although Peacemaker Season 3 hasn’t been confirmed yet, it seems likely that fans haven’t seen the last of Chris Smith. He may appear again somewhere in the DCU, possibly in James Gunn’s Superman movie or another future project.
In the Season 2 finale, Chris Smith is captured by ARGUS agents on Rick Flag Sr.’s orders, his head covered with a bag. This happens because Rick still holds a grudge against Smith for killing his son during Operation Starfish.
Instead of killing him, however, Rick Sr. sends Peacemaker to Planet Salvation through the portal.
As seen throughout Gunn’s work, he rarely includes a detail without purpose. Since he has already hinted at having “plans” for Peacemaker, possibly outside the TV format, Planet Salvation could likely reappear in one of his upcoming DC projects.
