Here’s what happens at the end of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.
SPOILERS for Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle.

Does Tanjiro actually die in Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1?
No, Tanjiro does not die in Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Part 1.
The movie featured three major battles that pit the Demon Slayers against Muzan’s Upper Ranks. The final battle centers on Tanjiro and Giyu, the Water Hashira, fighting Akaza, Upper Rank Three. After Akaza killed Rengoku in Mugen Train, Tanjiro was emotionally driven to take his revenge.
After the two Demon Slayers fought Akaza with all their strength and techniques, they were still nowhere close to defeating him. At one point, Giyu fought Akaza alone, and Tanjiro took the opportunity to find and analyze Akaza’s weakness. Recalling every moment of the battle, Tanjiro realized that Akaza’s strength was that he could sense his enemy’s fighting spirit. This sense allowed Akaza to know where his enemy would attack from, even if his back was turned.
Tanjiro remembered the moment when his father cut off a bear’s head without showing any aggression. Recalling his teachings, Tanjiro unlocked the Transparent World to defeat Akaza. He calmed his mind and suppressed his fighting spirit. He found an opening to kill Akaza and, using one of his breathing forms, cut his head clean off.
However, despite decapitating Akaza, the demon continued to fight back with intensity. After a long flashback and Akaza’s eventual suicide, both Giyu and Tanjiro collapsed to the ground. The fight had taken everything in them to defeat Akaza, and they were no longer able to move.
The film ended with Tanjiro still alive but severely wounded. It continued to tease the battles in the upcoming sequel while the credits rolled.
