Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle Reveals Why Akaza Didn’t Die Despite [Spoiler]

Despite getting his head cut off, Akaza doesn’t initially die in Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. His battle against Tanjiro and Giyu is one of the most intense and memorable ones in the movie. However, after witnessing his headless body put up a fight, many fans are wondering how Akaza managed to fight back after his decapitation. Although the movie doesn’t spell it out for its viewers, there’s a very simple reason for it.

Why didn’t Akaza die despite being decapitated in Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle?

The battle between Tanjiro and Giyu, the Water Hashira, against Akaza, Upper Rank Three, was intense. But given Akaza’s raw demon power, both Demon Slayers struggled to keep up. The fight got to the point where Giyu even unlocked the Demon Slayer Mark, pushing his abilities further.

On the other hand, Tanjiro realized that Akaza’s biggest strength lay in sensing the opponent’s fighting spirit. Tanjiro then recalled his conversation with his father and unlocked the Transparent World, where he could suppress his fighting spirit and avoid Akaza’s blows. He managed to get close to Akaza and finally beheaded him. However, that still wasn’t enough for them to kill Akaza.

When Akaza realized that his head had been cut off, he tried to reconnect his head, but Giyu knocked it away from him. This is where the movie delved into Akaza’s tragic flashback.

Following his father’s suicide, Akaza aimed to become stronger and kill everyone who did him wrong. Noticing that he’s still a kid, a dojo master, Keizo, took in Akaza. After spending a few years with them, Keizo’s daughter, Koyuki, wished to marry Akaza, to which he agreed. But a rival dojo poisoned their well, killing both Keizo and Koyuki. As retribution, Akaza killed 67 people with his bare hands, which attracted Muzan’s attention and turned him into a demon.

Back to the present, Akaza remembered that he had promised to get stronger and kill everyone. His sheer willpower to fight more enabled his body to keep fighting. Furthermore, his head started to regenerate. When Tanjiro realized what was happening, he forced himself towards Akaza to behead him once again. Instead, he lost his grip on his sword from exhaustion and punched Akaza.

This snapped Akaza out of his fighting rage, and he used his own attacks on his body to kill himself. And with Koyuki’s memories calling out to give up and join them in the afterlife, he disintegrated and reunited with his loved ones.
