The Conjuring: Last Rites offered a lot of tense moments in its final minutes, and Judy (Mia Tomlinson) hanging herself is one of those. Given that this is the final movie with Ed and Lorraine Warren, the stakes had to be very personal for them.
Here’s what happened in The Conjuring: Last Rites that led to Judy hanging herself.

Why did Judy hang herself in The Conjuring: Last Rites?
Judy tries to hang herself toward the end of the movie after a powerful demon connected to a haunted mirror possessed her.
Right at the beginning, The Conjuring: Last Rites established that Judy Warren, Ed and Lorraine’s daughter, was the main focus of the story. During one of the early cases in their career as paranormal investigators, Lorraine, who was pregnant with Judy at the time, came in contact with a cursed mirror. The mirror affected Lorraine when she touched it, leading to Judy’s premature birth.
Although she was stillborn and pronounced dead for a minute, Lorraine’s prayer seemed to breathe life into the newborn.
Years later, the mirror finds a way to lure Judy through the Smurl house haunting. When she arrived at the house, the hauntings got more severe. Since she also has psychic powers similar to her mother, the demon affected her directly. This resulted in the demon possessing Judy.
Toward the end, a fully possessed Judy tried to hurt the Smurl family and her parents. When Ed approached her, the demon triggered him to have a heart attack and led Judy to the attic. In the attic, Judy is lifted into the air by a rope tightening around her neck.
Ed, Lorraine, and Judy’s fiancé, Tony, arrive just in time. They cut her down and perform CPR to finally bring her back to life. In the end, with the help of her parents and her own abilities, Judy helped destroy the mirror and the demon.
