The Toxic Avenger is finally out in theaters, featuring a surprising ending for the lead, Winston. Serving as a remake of the eponymous 1984 film, this movie is the fifth installment in The Toxic Avenger franchise. It stars Peter Dinklage as the leading hero, along with Jacob Tremblay, Elijah Wood, Taylour Paige, and Kevin Bacon, among others.

Does Winston die in The Toxic Avenger’s ending?
No, Winston does not die at the end of The Toxic Avenger.
Despite its gory premise and gruesome scenes, The Toxic Avenger features a happy ending for its titular hero. Winston Gooze (Peter Dinklage), who turned into a sludge-like mutant after a freak accident, succeeds in taking down the villainous CEO Bob Garbinger (Kevin Bacon) at the end.
During the second half of the movie, we see Winston, also known as the vigilante Toxie, fight an epic battle with Garbinger. He managed to survive all the curveballs, including a brutal experiment, that the mutated CEO threw at him and ended up taking him down for good.
During the final moments of the movie, Winston wakes up in the hospital after his showdown with Garbinger. He finds out that he has emerged as a hero in the public eye thanks to his exceptional feat of defeating the corrupt CEO.
Thus, the movie ends on a happy note with Garbinger’s crimes out in the open and Winston repairing his relationship with his step-son, Wade. Furthermore, the movie also includes a post-credit scene that sets the stage for a future sequel.
Garbinger’s assistant, Kissy Sturnevan, who had reluctantly helped him in his nefarious plan, later ingested the same radioactive substance that mutated Winston. Now, with the same powers coupled with her vengeful disposition, Kissy became an even more malicious entity. The post-credit scene shows that she had survived the fight and will be back for more blood.
Although a sequel hasn’t been greenlit yet, the post-credit scene keeps the door open for future possibilities. However, fans can already check out the official graphic novel adaptation of the movie by Legendary Comics. It was released on Kickstarter on August 11, 2025.
