A new report anticipates that KPop Demon Hunters A Sing-Along Event will be topping the box office this weekend above favorites like Weapons and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. At first, it was largely unclear how much this theatrical special would make on Saturday and Sunday, August 23 and 24. Netflix has already shared that the film is the streamer’s most-watched animated original film of all time and its soundtrack reached the second spot on the Billboard 200 chart. That’s why Netflix decided to create a sing-along version of the movie in a similar vein to the popular Wicked sing-along screenings in 2024. And the latest box office predictions for the film believe it will be a surprising success.
What are the latest box office predictions for KPop Demon Hunters Sing Along?
The latest box office predictions for KPop Demon Hunters Sing Along have it earning approximately $20 million in over 1700 theaters over its three-day weekend, which is even more impressive since there won’t be any screenings for the film on Friday.
These figures are based on an August 21 analysis from BoxOfficeTheory, which more specifically believes that the movie will amass somewhere in the range of $16 million and $22 million in its debut weekend. This range is particularly impressive since AMC, one of the largest chains in the US, will not be airing the film, and it will not be showing at the majority of premium screens. Meanwhile, Weapons is projected to slot into the second spot, earning $17 million this weekend, and Freakier Friday is expected to be in third with $8.9 million.
Given the novelty and the limited-time offering of this sing-along event, the report shares that there are no box office numbers from traditional industry tracking. To provide a point of comparison, the limited 2022 release of Netflix’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery earned $13 million over its five-day window, a record that this sing-along movie is likely to smash.
There are more than several reasons why KPop Demon Hunters is looking to be a major hit. In particular, the movie has a lot of buzz on Netflix. Beyond its stats as an animated film on the platform, it also ranks second on the list of the streaming service’s most popular films in the English language. At the time of writing, KPop Demon Hunters has been viewed over 210 million times according to Tudum based on total views in the first 91 days of the movie’s release on Netflix. This is just under the movie in the top spot, Red Notice, that has a total of over 230 million views.
Since the announcement of the sing-along version, “demand has been palpable” as pre-sales for the film have sold out at multiple theater chains, which “are meeting demand by adding showtimes following numerous sellouts for Saturday and Sunday’s somewhat limited showtimes.” (One theater we’ve checked has 22 showtimes just on the Saturday.) For comparison, the site compares the demand for the movie to other special screenings, like the 20th anniversary for Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith and Beyonce’s Renaissance film in 2023.
On top of that, there’s a lack of competition when it comes to animated blockbusters near the end of Summer 2025, with the slight exception of Bad Guys 2 and Elio. This genre was somewhat taken up by the live-action versions of How to Train Your Dragon and Lilo & Stitch, but those were released earlier in the year (May and June).
That said, the report notes that it’s difficult to track how much fans of the film want to attend a sing-along screening, particularly because the movie is still available to watch on Netflix. Due to this, “walk-up business could be deflated,” but the box office outlook for K-Pop Demon Hunters still remains relatively high.
