Why Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Box Office Predictions Are Very High

A new report has unveiled early Demon Slayer Infinity Castle box office predictions, and they’re very impressive. For clarity, these projections are for the film’s September 12 release in the United States, as Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba – The Movie: Infinity Castle – Part 1: Akaza Returns (say that five times fast) has already been in theaters in Japan since July 18. And from the box office numbers in the country after just five weeks, it has already become the sixth highest-grossing movie of all-time in Japan. Given such incredible results, it’s been difficult to predict how much this first film in the Demon Slayer Infinity Castle trilogy will make in the States, but fortunately, a recent analysis predicts that it will make much more than the Demon Slayer To The Hashira Training film in 2024.

What are the box office projections for Demon Slayer Infinity Castle 2025?

The latest box office predictions for Demon Slayer Infinity Castle (2025) have the movie earning $17 million to $25 million in its US opening weekend from September 12 to 14. For its entire run in the US, it is expected to amass $26-$44 million domestically.

These numbers are based on an August 15 report from the box office analytics site Box Office Theory. This specific analysis doesn’t go into the reasoning behind the predictions, but an earlier report in late July described the movie as “shaping up to become the next domestic anime breakout.”

In particular, the report says that it will benefit the film to have a strong “IMAX and PLF presence stateside” (PLF stands for Premium Large Format). That shouldn’t be too difficult since the film’s main competition will be The Conjuring: Last Rites releasing September 5 and Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale releasing September 12. There aren’t many other movies coming out in September, apart from maybe the sports horror film Him (which is an entirely different genre anyway), that could give the movie a run for its money.

Up to August 15, Demon Slayer Infinity Castle Part 1 has earned over $143 million in Japan, in large part because the movie is not a compilation film like its immediate predecessor. As a point of comparison, it took the 2022 animated film One Piece: Film Red (which previously held the #6 spot for the highest-grossing film in Japan) over a year to earn $135 million at the box office in the country. Meanwhile, this 2025 film has already smashed those numbers is just over a month. More importantly, the Infinity Castle arc in the manga is one of the most popular and intriguing storylines in the series, and animation studio Ufotable is known for its ability to craft high-impact combat sequences and stunning visuals, which have added to the movie’s incredible word of mouth.

That’s only some of the reasons why the film’s box office predictions are high in the US when compared to the results for the 2024 Demon Slayer film, which only had a domestic US opening of $11.5 million and a total domestic total of $17.6 million. If Infinity Castle Part 1 indeed receives close to the high-end prediction of $44 million, it will perform more than twice as well as To The Hashira. (And we believe that these projections will only get higher as we get closer to the film’s US release.)

Despite this, we have yet to hear much about any potential collectibles or popcorn buckets for the film from major US theater chains. We do believe that there will be new Demon Slayer merchandise given the movie’s international reception and past collectibles from AMC in particular. It would be huge missed opportunity if there weren’t any. That said, looking at the Instagram pages for AMC, Cinemark, and Regal, promotion for the film has only started to ramp up, and the high number of likes and interactions to those posts should give them an indication of how many fans have been patiently waiting to score a ticket.
