With the success of Superman, fans are eager to see more of the DCU, and there could be a lot more ahead for the franchise, especially in terms of crossovers. In a recent interview with Josh Horowitz on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast, director and DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn seemingly revealed that more Superman projects are in the works. However, the next Superman movie may not be the kind that fans expect.
List of Superman sequel crossovers that could happen next in the DCU
The iconic Superman will return to the DCU soon. But Gunn confirmed in his recent appearance on the Happy Sad Confused Podcast that the upcoming Superman crossover will not be with Batman. It will not be a Batman vs Superman situation or a Superman and Batman team-up.
However, other possibilities remain. Here is a list of crossovers involving Superman that are much more likely to happen.
Superman vs. The Authority
James Gunn mentioned in the interview that The Authority movie is currently on hold. He also confirmed that the writers were exploring a different angle. This could indicate that there may be a movie in the near future that pits The Authority against Superman.
With The Authority’s approach of getting things done by any means necessary, the team could be a strong contrast to Superman’s method of preserving all life.
Superman, Supergirl, and Krypto
The upcoming Supergirl movie may set up a team-up of the three Kryptonians: Superman, Supergirl, and Krypto. Given the existing dynamic, or whatever little Superman (2025) depicted, a Superman and Supergirl team-up could be a compelling watch. Krypto would only add to the charm.
Superman and Wonder Woman
With Gunn confirming that a Wonder Woman script is in development, a team-up between Wonder Woman and Superman is possible. It is not far-fetched to imagine that she may join forces with him in her movie. Moreover, a crossover like this could introduce a love triangle between Lois Lane, Diana Prince, and Clark Kent.
Superman and the Justice Gang
A fascinating crossover that already exists in the DCU, Superman and the Justice Gang could reunite in the future. This time, the gang might also add new members, such as Peacemaker. But a team-up between Superman and heroes like Green Lantern, Metamorpho, Hawkgirl, and Mr. Terrific remains a strong possibility.
