Eddie Munson was arguably the most popular character in the fourth season of Stranger Things, and there have been multiple speculations about his return in Stranger Things Season 5. Of course, as most Stranger Things fans know, he died on screen and will most likely not come back.
But fans continue to hope for Eddie’s return, and there seem to be a few ways that the character could show up.
Theories about how Eddie Munson could return in Stranger Things Season 5
Flashbacks/ Dream Sequences
This is the most plausible theory about Eddie’s return. Though he is physically dead, he could still show up in dream sequences or flashbacks. Fans widely believe that this is going to happen. Moreover, he also left Dustin a note and shared a special connection with him. He could turn up in Dustin’s imagination or even be used by Vecna to torment Dustin.
The Eddie/Kas Theory
A theory that has gained momentum in recent months suggests that Eddie could also be linked to Dungeons & Dragons, much like Vecna. In D&D, Vecna had a lieutenant, Kas. But Kas ended up betraying him and helping to kill Vecna. This theory suggests that Vecna may resurrect Eddie (or he may become a vampire) and use him as his lieutenant. The trailer also features Eddie’s grave marked with “burn in hell.” This could also allude to this theory.
Eddie is alive in Vecna’s Mindscape, and Eleven may bring him back
This theory suggests that Vecna has trapped Eddie and his previous victims in his mindscape. If Eleven defeats Vecna, she may release the life forces he captured. Another related theory suggests that Eleven’s powers may be strong enough to bring back all the victims of the Upside Down. Either way, this theory keeps the door open on Eddie’s return.
Stranger Things Season 5 may have time travel
There is nothing yet that confirms the final season of the show will feature time travel. However, given that a huge rift has opened the gates of the Upside Down, it could also mean there are rifts in the reality they are in. This could potentially lead to a time travel angle, which may end up becoming a major narrative shift.
Joseph Quinn’s ambiguous replies about Eddie and the boom in Eddie merchandise are also reasons why fans think there is a chance for his return. Sadly, fans will have to wait until Stranger Things Season 5 arrives later this year to find out if any of these theories are true.
