After Mephisto debuted in the MCU in Ironheart, fans have started comparing the new villain with the iconic Thanos. Thanos is often considered to be one of the greatest villains in the MCU.

Mephisto was introduced in the MCU very recently, and it seems that he has powers that are beyond human comprehension. As a demon with magical powers, there are some things Mephisto can do that most other villains cannot. Moreover, Mephisto seems to be getting stronger with each soul he collects.
But despite the magical powers and ability to grow his strength over time, Mephisto is not a match for Thanos if the latter has his Infinity Gauntlet. Thanos with the Infinity Gauntlet is among the most powerful beings in the entire MCU. With the help of the Gauntlet, Thanos will be absolutely untouchable against Mephisto.
Mephisto, meanwhile, is extremely strong in his realm. So, if he faces Thanos in his realm and Thanos does not have the Infinity Stones, then Mephisto will triumph over Thanos. But that is an exceptional case, and most variants of Thanos will be able to take Mephisto with the Gauntlet.
However, Mephisto is generally stronger than Thanos if the stones are out of the equation. Mephisto has reality-mangling magic that makes him much more powerful as a being. Perhaps Thanos could have the physical edge, but he hardly has other powers without the Infinity Stones.
