Who Dies in Squid Game Season 3’s Ending?

Squid Game season 3‘s ending delivered a bloodbath that could rival Kinji Fukasaku’s Battle Royale (2000). In the finale, the show continued its brutal tone as Gi-hun attempted to end the games and partly succeeded. However, the cost was steep, and the mission was only half-accomplished.

Squid Game Season 3 features numerous deaths across its six episodes. While previous seasons had major character deaths, none were as intense as those seen in the final season.

In the first game of the contest, one group of players is instructed to kill another. In this round, Dae-ho (Player 388), Hyun-ju (120), the Shaman (044), and Yong-sik (007) die. Geum-ja (149) dies by suicide after this game. In the second round, the game kills Nam-gyu (124) and Jun-Hee (222). Before she dies, Jun-Hee gives birth, and the organizers name her baby the new Player 222.

In the final round, the remaining players must choose and kill three contestants. This puts Gi-hun, the baby, and Min-su (125) at risk. The Front Man contacts Gi-hun and offers him a knife, urging him to kill the others to save himself and the baby. He also reveals that someone gave the previous Front Man the same choice.

In the third game, which takes place atop towering structures, Min-su is the first to die. The voters begin turning on each other and kill Gin-Su. Myung-gi steps forward, reveals he is the biological father of the baby, and joins Gi-hun. Together, they knock most of the remaining players off the platforms. The last player jumps voluntarily.

Myung-gi demands the baby from Gi-hun and plans to kill the child to win the game. Gi-hun refuses, and they fight. Myung-gi falls off the structure, but the contestants hadn’t pressed the button to start the round. With no other option, Gi-hun sacrifices himself, allowing Baby 222 to win.

Gi-hun’s death is the final one in Squid Game Season 3. Afterward, Jun-ho finds the island with Player 246’s help, and the Front Man triggers a self-destruct sequence that destroys it. Gi-hun’s sacrifice becomes the symbolic final death on the island.

However, the final scene reveals that the games extend far beyond the island. Cate Blanchett makes a special appearance, hinting at the possibility of a larger universe.
