All Squid Game Spin-offs Season 3 Could Set up

Wondering what spin-offs Squid Game Season 3 could set up as the series nears its end? With creator Hwang Dong-hyuk teasing new timelines, character backstories, and global expansions, the franchise may be far from over.

Here’s a breakdown of all the Squid Game spin-offs Season 3 could set up, including one linked to David Fincher.

3 spin-offs that Squid Game Season 3 could set up

Set between Season 1 and 2

Creator Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed that if a Squid Game spin-off were to be made, it would be set during the three-year gap between Season 1 and Season 2. “If I make [a] spin-off, it will be a story happening between Season 1 and 2,” Hwang said at the 2025 Gotham Television Awards. “So, I want to show what they did for those times.” This timeline would allow a deeper look at what happened after Gi-hun won and before he returned.

Hwang confirmed he developed Seasons 2 and 3 together. “After I finished the whole season, the first season … I tried to come up with the idea of Season 2 and 3 at the same time.”

American Squid Game spin-off

The Season 3 finale reportedly sets up an American Squid Game spin-off. According to @MyTimeToShineHello on X, “The Squid Game S3 finale sets up the American spinoff that David Fincher is developing.” While Netflix has not announced the series, the claim surfaced just days before the Season 3 premiere on June 27, 2025. The spin-off would relocate the death game format to the United States, providing a new take on its social themes.

Front Man spin-off

Lee Byung-hun said he and Hwang once discussed making Season 2 about the origin of his character, the Front Man. In an interview with Forbes, he shared, “Could it maybe be about how In-ho (the Front Man) first entered the games and what it looked like back then?” Though the plan changed, this idea could return as a future spin-off.

The series has already revealed parts of In-ho’s past, including his wife’s illness, job loss, and debt. However, how he rose to oversee the games remains untold.
