With Andor Season 2 gradually approaching its end, the recently released episodes have provided fans with a plethora of Easter eggs related to Star Wars lore. Many of these references specifically nod to 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Episodes 7, 8, and 9 not only furthered the story of how the Alliance came to be but also updated a few plotlines of the already established Star Wars canon.
List of Easter eggs and Star Wars references in Andor Season 2 Episode 7, 8, 9
Here’s a list of major Easter eggs and references in the recently released Episodes 7, 8, and 9 of Andor Season 2.
K-2SO
The chapters finally provide a canonical explanation for Cassian’s first encounter with the beloved droid K-2SO, who made his first on-screen appearance in Rogue One. Andor decides to take a damaged KX droid back to Yavin, which is later revealed to be Kaytoo. Episode 9 also highlights K-2SO’s transition from a murderous bot to an Alliance ally. It retcons the origin story previously shown in Cassian & K-2SO Special #1. Instead of Cassian reprogramming the droid, the episode shows a horde of slicers suppressing Kaytoo’s impulses.
Rebellions Are Built on Hope
With Andor Season 2 finally putting the Ghorman Massacre on film, viewers also get to see an interesting Easter egg connected to Rogue One. While conversing with Cassian, the Ghorman hotel clerk recites the iconic “Rebellions are built on hope” dialogue. This line is repeated in Rogue One.
TIE Fighters
TIE Fighters, known for inflicting severe damage on the Rebels in the original Star Wars trilogy, get a nod in the recent episodes of Andor Season 2. Their presence adds both tension and nostalgia to the storyline. Although the starfighters occasionally appear on screen, viewers mostly hear their anxiety-inducing screams in the background.
Cassian’s rifle
Another Rogue One Easter egg highlighted in the recent Andor Season 2 episodes has to do with Cassian‘s rifle. The BlasTech A280-CFE convertible heavy blaster pistol he uses on Ghorman is, in fact, the same weapon Cassian used on his mission to assassinate Galen Erso in Rogue One.
Mothma’s speech
Mon Mothma‘s famed speech, where she brings public attention to Emperor Palpatine’s vile intentions, as well as the Empire’s tyranny, also receives an update in Andor Season 2 Episode 9. Her note includes a more dramatic build-up this time around. It ultimately concludes with Mothma labeling Palpatine as a monster right before the feed is interrupted.
Melshi
Ruescott Melshi, who made his Star Wars debut in Rogue One and also served as Cassian’s cellmate in Narkina in Andor Season 1, returns in Season 2. He officially joins the Rebel forces on Yavin.
Gold Squadron
During the departure of Mon Mothma in Andor Season 2, fans got to witness yet another Star Wars Easter egg. The Gold Squadron, which participated in multiple battles in the original Star Wars trilogy, made an appearance. They took over the escorting duties for Mon Mothma.
