Fans have begun to think that the Armor Wars movie starring Don Cheadle has been silently canceled, given there has been no update on its development. Originally announced as a Disney+ series, Armor Wars was later reworked into a theatrical film. Is Don Cheadle’s Armor Wars really canceled by Marvel?
Marvel Studios hasn’t confirmed the cancellation of Cheadle’s Armor Wars movie.
The rumors about Cheadle’s movie getting nixed began as there have been no solid updates on its status since its announcement over four years back.
In an interview with MovieWeb in 2024, Yassir Lester, writer for the project, assured fans that it’s still in development. He compared the situation to that of Marvel Studios’ Blade film, another Marvel project that has faced numerous delays.
He said, “In the same way Blade [starring Mahershala Ali] goes away and comes back the next day, Armor Wars is — it’ll be a thing that happens every few months, then it won’t happen, then it’ll happen again.” Despite this uncertainty, reliable scooper DanielRPK recently reported that while the film is not scrapped, it is currently “on hold.”
The scooper claimed that after facing backlash on Secret Invasion, the Armor Wars project is being reworked and would likely happen after major upcoming MCU projects like Secret Wars. The scooper also mentioned, “It’s (Armor Wars) also expected to focus on entirely different things than originally planned.” This update clarifies that currently, Armor Wars might not be a priority for Marvel, and might focus on it once all current major projects are out. Additionally, Ironheart’s delay could be a key factor affecting Armor Wars’ timeline. Since Ironheart directly connects to the events of the Armor Wars, Marvel may be waiting for its release before proceeding with the film. The Ironheart series is scheduled to debut in June 2025.
