A new rumor circulating online claims that Blade, led by Mahershala Ali, has been canceled at the moment. This MCU project was first announced in 2019 at the San Diego Comic-Con. It was initially supposed to come out on November 3, 2023, but was postponed to November 2025 ultimately due to several issues at play. Now, there are still no hopeful updates on its production, making its future uncertain. The latest rumor has made fans curious. So, here’s all you need to know whether Blade is happening or has been axed.
Is Mahershala Ali’s Blade really canceled by Marvel?
Marvel Studios hasn’t officially addressed the fate of Ali’s Blade. However, the new rumor indicates that it has been canceled for now.
Recently, Rodrigo Perez, an author at The Playlist, took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a thread about the news he has heard from trusted sources about Blade’s future. Firstly, he addressed the reports around the studios tapping John Wick’s Chad Stahelski to direct the project. He revealed that these rumors appear to be “incorrect,” mentioning that the project’s creative direction has moved entirely.
Addressing the cancellation, he said, “While Mahershala Ali is still attached all these years later, despite some of the talk that he was being difficult about approving scripts, from what I’m hearing, the ‘Blade’ movie is essentially nixed for now.” He added that this doesn’t mean that fans won’t ever get to see a Blade project materialize. There are still chances of it happening in the future. Additionally, he mentioned that the studio would still introduce Ali in the upcoming MCU projects like Midnight Suns and Avengers: Secret Wars.
According to Perez, there is also a possibility of him being introduced as a supporting character, similar to how the studios added Namor in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The author also highlighted that he might be skipped from Secret Wars, given that his new character would be completely lost in a big ensemble and would not receive a proper introduction. While there are chances of him being introduced in Midnight Suns, if it doesn’t happen, the studios would likely find a new way to incorporate him, per Perez.
