With Taskmaster noticeably missing from the Thunderbolts* Super Bowl trailer, fans are curious to know the reason behind her limited screen time. The upcoming 36th film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is set to release on May 2, 2025, and will be concluding the MCU’s Phase Five.
Here’s everything we know about why Taskmaster, played by Olga Kurylenko, rarely appears in the Thunderbolts* Super Bowl trailer.
Why Taskmaster had a small role in the Thunderbolts* trailer
Taskmaster’s lack of screen time in the Thunderbolts* trailer is likely due to a popular fan theory that suggests that she might die early on in the film.
Fans have noticed that Olga Kurylenko’s Antonia Dreykov aka Taskmaster has been scarce in the marketing for Thunderbolts*. It’s possible that Taskmaster could die very early on in the movie in a similar way to the character Slipknot in the DCEU movie Suicide Squad.
It could even be The Sentry/The Void, played by Lewis Pullman, who will kill Taskmaster in the movie. The trailer gives fans a glimpse into how powerful Robert “Bob” Reynolds’ The Void is going to be in the movie. This might explain why she didn’t enjoy much screen time in the trailer. The only time fans see her in the trailer is when the titular team meets up at the Stark Tower, which is now under the ownership of Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Valentina.
However, the plot details of the movie are still under wraps. Neither the studio nor Kurylenko have made any comments regarding the matter.
Directed by Jake Schreier, Thunderbolts* features a stellar cast with many stars reprising their roles from the previous MCU movies. Florence Pugh returns as Yelena Belova along with Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Wyatt Russell as U.S. Agent, and Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, among others.
