Genndy Tartakovsky’s Clone Wars Gets New Star Wars Toys…Sort Of

Even though it’s not official canon, since the Dave Filoni cartoon overwrote it, the Clone Wars 2D micro-series remains beloved by fans. It’s not uncommon to hear some debate whether or not it’s better than the prequels, or even any animation that came after. So as part of the Lucasfilm 50th anniversary celebration at Hasbro, Genndy Tartakovsky‘s 2D shorts will get new toys. Well, partly new, anyway. Reproduction of boxes and deco from across the history of Star Wars toys has been the main focus of the anniversary. As such, these Clone Wars figures feature pre-existing sculpts. Just with new deco and packaging that reflect the animation color scheme.

Announced on StarWars.com, the Walmart exclusive line arrives next spring. It will include both the vintage collection 3.75-inch figures and the Black Series 6-inch figures. In the former category, female Jedi Luminara Unduli, Barriss Offee and Aayla Secura join two ARC Troopers and a Battle Droid. In the latter, for which only concept art is available so far: Mace Windu, General Grievous, and an ARC Trooper. The Black Series figures will appear in packaging resembling the original Target exclusive animated-style figures. The vintage get vintage cards with images from the animation.
