Masters of the Universe Origins Packaged and Display Images Unleashed

He-Man and his friends and foes have undergone many changes over the years. Mattel alone has revived Masters of the Universe as an anime line, a modern upgraded line, and a LEGO-ish line. Up next comes Masters of the Universe Origins, with a design aesthetic of closely mimicking the original ’80s figures while adding articulation. Occasionally the sculpt sports minor changes — an open mouth on Skeletor, a more handsome face for He-Man — but the idea remains vintage-style.

Ironically, the spin-off line came out first. Masters of the WWE Universe, now at Walmarts everywhere, uses the new Origins body type. Mashing up WWE talents with Masters of the Universe outfits and accessories, the hybrid toys offer a preview of these new Eternians. Masters of the Universe Origins will also initially arrive as Walmart exclusives in the US, with possible wider distribution later. But a French collectibles site, Lulu Berlu, obtained official product images first.

Initial offerings mostly mirror the original line’s, with He-Man, Skeletor, Teela, Evil-Lyn, Man-At-Arms, and Battle Cat. Just to mix things up, a few characters who came later feature in the rollout now. Orko, Man-E-Faces, Trap Jaw, and Prince Adam on a Sky Sled join the classics. A minicomic-based Prince Adam previously appeared as a Comic-Con exclusive; the new one sports the animated-style pink vest. Additionally, for those interested in crossover with previous collections, the Origins Battle Cat without armor could probably work as an articulated Cringer for Classics. Moreover, the Sky Sled might work with slightly larger figures as well.
