Build Strong Guy With the Latest Deadpool Marvel Legends Wave

Fans have known for some time that Hasbro would deliver a Strong Guy build-a-figure this fall, as part of a Deadpool wave. But until today, the complete character roster from the wave remained unknown. It’s a Marvel Monday today, as Hasbro put all the figures up for preorder at all the major online stores. As usual, two Deadpools anchor the line. One sports a familiar variant scheme in blue and yellow. The other? Pirate Deadpool, which feels like a throwback to the ’90s when every signature character in a toy line, from Spawn to Batman, would don skull-and-crossbones garb for at least one figure.

Hasbro of late appears to have been looking hard at the old Toy Biz X-Men figure rosters, trying to fill in some gaps. Black Tom, Warpath, Sunspot, Maverick, and of course Strong Guy all got representation in plastic back in the day. Marvel Legends upgrades feel overdue, particularly since Black Tom prominently appeared onscreen in Deadpool 2. Shiklah, with Jeff the Land Shark, fills out the wave with some female representation the ’90s lines often lacked.

Deadpool is the sort of character who lends himself to near-infinite variants, so it’s good to see so many other key characters along for the ride. But now that movie-based figures of the Merc with a Mouth have the green light, more of those would be most welcome too.
