Exclusive: Patrick Wilson on Those Watchmen 2 Rumors

About a month back, there were some rumors going around that Paul Levitz leaving DC Comics as publisher would remove the one obstacle that kept Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment from making more movies based around Zack Snyder’s adaptation of the Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ graphic novel Watchmen. Those were since dispelled as just rumors by Nikki Finke and DC Entertainment President Diane Nelson–you can read that whole story here.

When ComingSoon.net had a chance to talk to Patrick Wilson (Nite Owl) this past weekend for his new comedy Barry Munday, which premiered at the 2010 South by Southwest Film Festival on Saturday, they asked him whether he had heard anything about the sequel/prequel rumors and what he thought about them.

“We always sort of joked, like ‘What would happen?’. But the reality is I think the movie’s great, I had an unbelievable time doing the movie, but actually, from that perspective–it’s not that you’re ever glad that a movie didn’t do $500 million–but for the idea of ‘Now we’ve gotta do a sequel,’ financially it wouldn’t even make sense.”

He also couldn’t imagine what they’d be able to do with it, because the original graphic novel and movie was always meant as a stand-alone story.
