Note From the Editor: To preemptively answer the question: Yes, there really is a Shamrock in Marvel’s comic book universe. She was created for Marvel Super Hero: Contest of Champions, during one of Marvel’s first-ever large scale event storylines. Shamrock a.k.a. Molly Fitzgerald has only appeared sporadically since her debut in 1982. Although Shamrock is pretty unlikely to ever make it into the MCU, she clearly struck a chord with Superhero Hype’s cosplay correspondent, Ashlynne Dae.
This week, Ashlynne is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day a little early with her take on Shamrock’s costume.

I made this costume several years ago, but I think Shamrock deserves a little more love, as one of the quirkiest superheroines in the Marvel universe.

Superhero Hype Cosplay: Shamrock #1
Ah Shamrock. What a fun obscure character that barely anyone remembers unless it’s St. Patrick’s Day.

Superhero Hype Cosplay: Shamrock #2
Molly Fitzgerald is an often overlooked Marvel heroine who has largely been relegated to background appearances and team-ups.

Her bold, clover emblazoned bodysuit is surely iconic. She is, obviously, an Irish superhero, and I think it's delightfully on-the-nose to revisit her now!

Molly started her career as a crime fighter after realizing she had been blessed with good luck powers.

Most of her hero career has happened off-panel, but she did eventually retire. After that, she went on to become a hairdresser who specialized in working with superheroines!

Eventually she opened an Irish pub in New York City, which is called Luck o' the Irish. Naturally, a lot of heroes and heroines frequent her pub.

I personally love the opportunity to use my real hair in a cosplay, and I love finding characters where my big, naturally curly ginger hair works!
I am mixed Korean/white, but being Irish is also a part of my heritage. Since Shamrock is a red-haired Irish heroine, she seemed like a natural choice for me.

And I also thought it would be fun to give Shamrock some attention.
