Superhero Hype Cosplay: Classic Scarlet Witch
Note From the Editor: Despite this week’s WandaVision episode describing this costume as a “Sokovian fortune teller,” old school comic book readers recognize it as one of Wanda Maximoff’s fan favorite looks. For this week’s column, Superhero Hype’s cosplay correspondent, Ashlynne Dae, is casting her spell as classic Scarlet Witch. This is the outfit that Wanda wore for most of her original stints with the Avengers. And it’s still among her most popular costumes.
Are you up to date with WandaVision? Don’t worry, you won’t find any spoilers here if you aren’t.
I have really been enjoying watching the series unfold for the past few weeks.
I think Wanda/Scarlet Witch is one of the most fascinating characters in the Marvel universe.
And I’m really excited to see which parts of her comic book history will tie into the MCU.
The comic book Easter eggs and callbacks have been a lot of fun to spot. Of course, this week’s WandaVision episode is also the most appropriate time to debut my take on Scarlet Witch’s classic costume!
I’ve always loved this version of Wanda. I even had fabric in my stash that I was planning on using for her cape for about 6 years now!
I didn’t end up using it for this because the tone wasn’t right for the fabric that I picked for the bodysuit.
But perhaps I will just have to make another version of Scarlet Witch sometime soon!
Unfortunately, this costume is not in any way practical for a superhero. That’s why I generally like the costume changes that were made for the MCU films and TV series.
Regardless, I am happy to finally see this version of Wanda get some love in the MCU!
And for my first cosplay of Scarlet Witch, I wouldn’t dream of making anything else before Wanda’s best outfit!
