In Februrary 2025, Marvel and DC announced they would organize the first intercompany crossover of their characters in over 20 years. However, it was left unspoken what characters would interact and what creators would be involved. The veil of mystery has now been lifted, and Deadpool will team with Batman in two different one-shot specials; Deadpool/Batman and Batman/Deadpool.
The first special, Deadpool/Batman, will be written by Zeb Wells. Wells is fresh off a lengthy run on Amazing Spider-Man, and co-wrote the movie Deadpool & Wolverine. He is joined by artist Greg Capullo, who has extensive experience with both the Dark Knight and the Merc with a Mouth from his time on X-Force.
The story of Deadpool/Batman will find Wade Wilson traveling to Gotham City for a job. This will bring him into conflict with the World’s Finest Detective. However, the two will become unlikely allies in the wake of the latest scheme of The Joker. The special will also contain several back-up features, with other DC and Marvel superheroes by other creative teams. However, these features and creators have yet to be detailed.
The second special, Batman/Deadpool, will be written by comics’ legend Grant Morrison. Morrison had an extensive run on the monthly Batman comic and co-created the Damian Wayne Robin. They are joined by Dan Mora, the current artist on both Justice League Unlimited and Batman/Superman: World’s Finest.
When does Deadpool/Batman release?

Deadpool/Batman #1 is schedule for release on September 17, 2025. Batman/Deadpool should release in November 2025, but an precise date has yet to be announced. However, both creative teams are excited for the opportunity to deliver the first Marvel/DC crossover comics in two decades.

In an email statement to EW, Wells spoke of how the Deadpool teaming with Batman was similar yet different to Wolverine. “In Batman we’ve found someone who has even less time for Deadpool’s antics than Wolverine, but a city-wide threat from the Joker makes strange bedfellows (literally, if Deadpool had his way). It’s been a blast letting Deadpool loose in Gotham City and watching what happens.”
Morrison was equally enthusiastic about the prospect of teaming the Dark Knight and Merc with a Mouth. “I don’t do many comics these days but there was no way I could turn down the chance to work with Dan Mora again, one of my all-time favorite artistic collaborators — and definitely no way I could turn down Batman and Deadpool! Expect 4th wall-busting mayhem, owls, blood, blades, and at least one giant typewriter!”
