Ultimate Sabretooth Revealed, Has Surprising Wolverine Connection

Wolverine and Sabretooth are among the most famous archenemies in all of superhero comics. The history between Logan and Victor Creed is full of bad blood and blood shed. As such, it was inevitable that the new Ultimate Universe would get its own version of Sabretooth. However, the opening scene of Ultimate Wolverine #5 hints at a major change in this reality.

Written by Chris Condon, with art by Alex Lins, the issue opens on the city of Rasputingrad. It is here that the familiar figure of Victor Creed is found running a bar. However, far from the psychotic maniac who regularly menaces the X-Men, this Sabretooth is apparently part of The Opposition; the heroic Mutant underground undermining The Maker.

The first four pages of Ultimate Wolverine #5 may be viewed below.

What is different about Ultimate Sabretooth?

What we see of Victor Creed in this preview speaks of a radically different man than the monstrous Mutant of Earth-616. Despite occasionally working with the X-Men, Sabretooth is an opportunist first and foremost. It is hard to see him working as an operative on the Mutant underground railroad when there is more profit to be found in serving The Maker. It is even harder to imagine the sadistic Creed making a sweet treat to calm two Mutant kids. What is most surprising, however, is how he speaks of Wolverine.

This version of Sabretooth speaks of Logan as a friend, with whom he shared many adventures as part of the Opposition. That in itself speaks as to how radically changed the new Ultimate Universe is. It is unlikely that either Logan or Victor Creed could imagine any world where they were ever friends.

Ultimate Wolverine #5 arrives in comic shops everywhere on May 7, 2025.
