When it comes to Mutant powers, Warren Worthington III got the short end of the stick among the first class of X-Men. As Angel, he had the power to fly, and that was it. Even after he acquired a healing factor and an offensive upgrade as the Archangel of Apocalypse, he was still far from the most powerful Mutant. However, as the X-Manhunt tie-in X-Factor #8 reveals, Angel is flying high with a notable upgrade.

Written by Mark Russell, with art by Bob Quinn, X-Factor #8 finds Angel leading the team against the current roster of X-Men. Both teams are trying to take custody of the fugitive Charles Xavier. Angel and his team want to recapture him on behalf of the American government. The other team of Mutant heroes want to contain him within their own prison.

Unfortunately, cooler heads are not given a chance to find a compromise. While Angel and Beast try to discuss the matter, Juggernaut attacks. Under ordinary circumstances, few can face Juggernaut in a one-on-one fight. Certainly no member of X-Factor has a chance against him. However, Angel had a trick up his sleeve; an Ace he’d hoped to keep hidden, but revealed rather dramatically once combat was unavoidable.

X-Factor leader Angel regained his Archangel powers

Ironically, Angel’s upgrade happened to correspond with an incongruity Beast noted. Namely, that Angel would have no need of a hospital with his healing factor. Angel confirmed this was the case and his hospital stay involved elective surgery rather than recovering from recent injuries. This was the cue for him to reveal his restored Archangel powers. More, he apparently further upgraded his mobility, now being capable of reshaping himself into a razor sharp ball.

It should be noted this is not the first time Angel gained the ability to switch between his Angel and Archangel forms. He first gained this ability in 2008, during his time with X-Force. However, he seemed to lose this ability after his resurrection on Krakoa. Based on what is seen in X-Factor #8, Angel has been given greater control of his Archangel self than ever before.
X-Factor #8 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
