Absolute Wonder Woman Gets a More Dangerous Magic Lasso in #5 Preview

Wonder Woman‘s trademark weapon is her Magic Lasso, which compels those bound in it to tell the truth. This classic piece of comics history got an upgrade in the Absolute Universe, being turned into a weapon that inflicted pain. However, Absolute Wonder Woman #5 goes a step further, revealing that this version of Diana has a second, even more powerful lasso.

Written by Kelly Thompson, with art by Hayden Sherman, Absolute Wonder Woman #5 continues Diana’s battle with the Tetracide. A nightmarish creature from Hell, it consumes the bodies, minds, and souls of those it encounters. With all other options eliminated, Diana falls back on a weapon forged by her adoptive mother, Circe, as a last resort.

Known as Sacrifice, the weapon is a magic lasso. However, it is a different kind of magic than Nemesis, which inflicts pain on those bound in it in proportion to the suffering they’ve caused. Indeed, Sacrifice is the masterpiece of Circe, renowned for her mastery of transmutation.

Absolute Wonder Woman’s second lasso can transform anything

The power of Sacrifice is such that it can forever bind whatever snares it. More, it can transform the shape of whatever it holds. However, as Circe warns Absolute Wonder Woman, it can change the wielder as well as whomever it binds. This fact, as well as the lasso’s name, foreshadows how the Tetracide might be beaten.

Diana ultimately uses the power of the lasso to change herself into Medusa. The lasso perfectly replicates the curse of Athena, which gave her former priestess a petrifying stare. For all its strength, the Tetracide is not immune to such godly magic. This shows the full power of the Sacrifice lasso. However, it is limited in that the wielder can become permanently changed if they do not quickly remember themselves and how to change back.

Absolute Wonder Woman #5 is now available at comic shops everywhere.
