X-Men: John Romita Jr. Homages Classic Frank Miller Wolverine Cover

2024 is a big year for Wolverine, marking the 50th anniversary of his first appearance. Logan quickly became one of the most popular X-Men, and remains so to this day. This is why he is getting a new solo series as part of the From the Ashes X-Men revival. Now, the first issue of the new series is getting a variant cover by John Romita Jr. homaging the first Wolverine comic cover by Frank Miller.

Published in 1982, the first Wolverine series was written by Chris Claremont with art by Frank Miller. Running for four issues, the series marked the first major exploration of Logan’s life in Japan and his doomed romance with a woman named Mariko. Miller’s cover for the first issue, featuring Logan beckoning an unseen enemy while baring his claws, is one of the most iconic images of Logan ever created. John Romita Jr. has put his own spin on this idea for the new From The Ashes Wolverine #1.

From The Ashes Wolverine #1 Explained

The new series opens with Logan in a darker place than usual. The trials and tribulations of the battle with Orchis and a pack of Sabertooth variants from across the multiverse have taken their toll. This sends Logan into the wilds of Canada, reconnecting with his inner beast, as he once again runs with a wolf pack.

Nightcrawler arrives to bring his friend home. Unfortunately, another one of Logan’s old enemies will also come looking for him. This, in turn, leads to an encounter with a killer, and the awakening of an ancient evil. All of it comes together, forcing Wolverine to return and show why he is the best at what he does.

Wolverine #1 arrives in comic shops everywhere on September 11, 2024.
