Green Arrow #11 Preview Pits Arrow Family Against Justice League

Oliver Queen would be the first to admit that he has authority issues. Despite this, he still joined the Justice League, even while complaining they focused on costumed criminals over corporate malfeasance. Still, it seems hard to believe that Green Arrow would ever come to blows with his former comrades.

Green Arrow #11 by Joshua Williamson, Sean Izaakse, Phil Hester, and Eric Gapstur seemingly opens with this unlikely scenario. Looks are deceiving, however, for the “heroes” in question are realistic holograms. Unfortunately, the danger they post to Oliver Queen and his family is all too real.

Why Green Arrow Has Justice League Issues

It may seem odd that, with all the issues Oliver Queen has, that a computer programmed to act on his emotional trauma would bring the JLA to life. However, this does make sense within the context of recent events in the DC Universe. While most of the Justice League disappeared during the Dark Crisis event, Oliver Queen did not reappear with the rest of the team. This was due to his becoming lost in time and space, thanks to the manipulations of his archenemy, Merlyn.

Oliver Queen spent several months traveling the galaxy, working out a way to get home. When he finally did get back to Earth, he was anxious to catch up with his allies and fight the good fight once again. However, in the absence of Green Arrow, the Justice League decided to disband, due to a number of factors stemming from most of its members having other things to worry about.

While Oliver Queen is the first to criticize the Justice League’s actions, he is simultaneously one of the team’s biggest advocates. Indeed, in the timeline of JLA: Year One, he secretly financed the Justice League as an anonymous donor before joining the team as Green Arrow. Given that, it is logical that Oliver might feel betrayed by his teammates and have some issues with them leaving the team, no matter what their reasons.

Green Arrow #11 arrives in comic shops everywhere on April 23, 2024.
