Green Arrow #9 Preview Pits Oliver Queen Against Amanda Waller

It would be fair to say that Oliver Queen has issues with authority. The modern day Robin Hood devoted his life as a hero to targeting those corrupt officials that most superheroes ignored. To that end, the preview for Green Arrow #9 by Joshua Williamson and Sean Izaakse finds the Emerald Archer setting his sights on Amanda Waller.

Picking up from the stunning finale of Titans: Beast World, Green Arrow #9 finds “The Wall” moving into the Hall of Justice. The former Justice League base was appropriated by the newly formed Bureau of Sovereignty and redubbed the Hall of Order. Beyond being a symbolic takeover, this gives the new anti-hero organization a sizeable arsenal of advanced technology and a secure base. Thankfully, Green Arrow is very good at getting into places he isn’t meant to be. He is also determined to confront “The Wall” regarding the disappearance of his protégé, Roy Harper.

Will Green Arrow Work For “The Wall”?

The main cover for Green Arrow #9 shows Oliver Queen shaking hands with Amanda Waller. This would seem to suggest an alliance between the two. However, “The Wall” represents everything the Emerald Archer stands against. More than any other hero at DC Comics, Oliver Queen is a champion of defenseless. It seems unbelievable that he would willingly work with an “ends justify the means” authority like Waller.

However, Oliver Queen does have a history of working with Amanda Waller in the Dawn of DC timeline. He was part of her Justice League of America, which formed to protect American interests from the Justice League. While he may not share Waller’s view of the world, Oliver Queen respects that she is good at her job. She also shares his belief that one must go to extremes to protect a higher principle at the cost of your idealism. The key difference between them, however, is what extremes are allowable and what ideals should be sacrificed.

Green Arrow #9 arrives in comic shops everywhere on February 27, 2024.
