X-Men: Mystique and Destiny Tie the Knot in New Pride One-Shot

Marvel Comics has announced a brand-new X-Men wedding special celebrating the love between Mystique and Destiny.

Per Marvel, X-Men: The Wedding Special #1 arrives in comic shops late this coming May — just in time for the start of Pride Month in June. The mutant-centric one-shot acts as this year’s Marvel’s Voices: Pride anthology, featuring stories from such writers as Kieron Gillen, Tini Howard, Tate Brombal, and Wyatt Kennedy. Jan Bazaldua provides the main cover artwork. Marvel will announce the book’s interior artists at a later date.

What to X-pect from X-Men: The Wedding Special

An official synopsis for X-Men: The Wedding Special #1 reads as follows: “It’s a mutant wedding extravaganza! Mystique and Destiny are one of the most beloved — and longest-lasting — gay couples in comic book history. Together for over 100 years, the pair secretly married during their decades-long  romance. See the event and the renewal of those vows for the first time on the page.” If Bazaldua’s cover is anything to go on, it seems as though Nightcrawler will be on hand to officiate his parents’ renewal ceremony.

The aforementioned Gillen — a longtime architect of Marvel‘s X-Men line — will handle Destiny and Mystique’s nuptials. “They’ve been through hell, mainly at my pen. Finally, giving these two a happy day? How can I say no,” the writer said.

In addition to featuring Marvel’s first woman-to-woman wedding, X-Men: The Wedding Special #1 will “spotlight characters like Betsy Braddock and Rachel Summers, Loki, and many more.” The publisher promises “party crashing! Villainy! Romance! And so much more!”

Of course, the upcoming Pride anthology is actually the second comic to carry the title X-Men: The Wedding Special. Marvel previously put out a one-shot of the same name in 2018 to celebrate the union between Kitty Pryde and Colossus.

X-Men: The Wedding Special #1 goes on sale Wednesday, May 29 from Marvel Comics.
