Ultimate X-Men #1 Is Already Getting a Second Printing

The debut issue of Peach Momoko‘s Ultimate X-Men doesn’t hit stands for another month — but Marvel is already sending the book back to the printers.

On its official website, Marvel confirmed that Ultimate X-Men #1 would be getting a second printing. The fact that the publisher made the announcement this early suggests it is anticipating high sales — and it’s not hard to see why. Marvel’s new Ultimate line has proven to be a big hit among readers, with both Ultimate Spider-Man #1 and Ultimate Black Panther #1 having been rushed back to print themselves.

The first printing of Ultimate X-Men #1 hits comic shops the first full week of March, featuring a main cover by series writer/artist Momoko. The second printing arrives five weeks later — in early April — featuring all-new cover art by R.B. Silva. Notably, the second edition of issue #1 releases the very same day as issue #2.

What is Peach Momoko’s Ultimate X-Men about?

Momoko’s Ultimate X-Men serves to properly introduce mutantkind to Marvel’s new Ultimate Universe, Earth-6160. Set in Japan, the series focuses on Hisako Ichiki/Armor — a longtime member of the X-Men from Marvel’s main Earth-616 continuity — and Maystorm — a new, Storm-inspired character Momoko originally created for the New Champions Variant Cover program.

Marvel explains that when Earth-6160’s Armor “discovers her unusual exoskeleton powers,” her “normal life is shattered as she becomes the first of a new generation of mutants.” The publisher invites readers to “[w]itness the X-Men mythos like you’ve never seen before as Momoko blends the classic mutant metaphor with Japanese folklore and urban legends.”

“At first, I was worried about being chosen for such an important project, but the more I draw and write the series, the more confident I am with my own vision of ULTIMATE X-MEN,” Momoko recently told AiPT Comics. “ULTIMATE X-MEN isn’t directly influenced by classic X-Men stories. I like to believe C.B. [Cebulski] and Jonathan Hickman chose me because they wanted something completely new and different.”

Ultimate X-Men #1 goes on sale Wednesday, March 6 from Marvel Comics. Issue #2 follows suit on Wednesday, April 10 alongside the second printing of issue #1.
