Cobra Commander Awakens Megatron in New Energon Universe Trailer

Skybound Entertainment has released a new trailer promoting the second wave of its interconnected Energon Universe.

The new trailer spotlights the various titles that make up Skybound and Image Comics‘ Energon Universe — including Void Rivals, Transformers, and G.I. Joe offshoots Duke and Cobra Commander. The trailer concludes by teasing a villain team-up for the ages, with iconic G.I. Joe adversary Cobra Commander awakening the biggest, baddest Transformer of them all: Megatron. Notably, the Decepticon leader’s whereabouts have been a central mystery throughout the early goings of the EU.

The present and future of the Energon Universe

The Energon Universe kicked off in June 2023 with the debut of Void Rivals by Robert Kirkman, Lorenzo De Felici, and Matheus Lopes. The original series’ premiere issue featured a surprise appearance by Jetfire, of Transformers fame.

This led directly into Daniel Warren Johnson’s ongoing Transformers series, which launched in October 2023. Johnson currently writes and illustrates Transformers, while Mike Spicer colors the comic. Johnson’s first story arc wraps up in March’s issue #6. Jorge Corona will take over as artist starring with April’s Transformers #7. Johnson will continue to write the series.

The G.I. Joe franchise properly entered the fray in December 2023 with the launch of Duke by Joshua Williamson, Tom Reilly, and Jordie Bellaire. Cobra Commander by Williamson, Andrea Milana, and Annalisa Leoni followed suit this month. Duke and Cobra Commander are two of four G.I. Joe limited series currently planned as part of the Energon Universe.

Additionally, Skybound and Image are putting out an EU special for Free Comic Book Day this May. The one-shot will feature “three all new stories from the Energon Universe, with stunning revelations for the worlds of Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Void Rivals.”
