Starscream Rebuilds the Decepticons in Transformers #5 First Look

Skybound Entertainment has revealed a first look inside the upcoming fifth issue of Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers.

Written and illustrated by Johnson and colored by Mike Spicer, Transformers #5 rolls into comic shops next month. The issue features a main cover by Johnson and Spicer, as well as variant covers by James Stokoe, Orlando Arocena, Natacha Bustos, and Karl Kerschl. At this time, Skybound has also shared four fully-lettered preview pages, in which Autobot leader Optimus Prime trades war stories with Sparky. Elsewhere, the Decepticon known as Starscream enacts his plan to resurrect his fallen comrades.

An official synopsis for Transformers #5 reads as follows: “Starscream revives one of the most powerful Decepticons to eliminate the Autobots once and for all.”

The future of Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers

Johnson’s Transformers launched this past October as part of Skybound and Image Comics‘ Energon Universe. February’s issue #5 serves as the penultimate chapter in the book’s first major story arc. After the arc concludes in Transformers #6, a new chapter will begin in April’s issue #7.

Transformers #7 will see Jorge Corona take over as the series’ artist, while Johnson will continue to write the Robots in Disguise. “It’s a rare breed of artist that can naturally bring an organic quality to things that are inherently mechanical, and Jorge is one of those chosen few,” Johnson said when Skybound made the announcement earlier this month. “Prepare your eyes for a feast of brawn and beauty, my friends. This man draws a mean looking Soundwave. KA BAM!”

I am very honored and humbled to be a part of this project and cannot wait to share all of the craziness that’s coming up in the book,” Corona added.

Transformers #5 goes on sale Wednesday, February 14 from Image Comics.
