G.I. Joe’s M.A.R.S. Joins the Energon Universe in Duke #4 First Look

Skybound Entertainment and Image Comics have shared a first look inside the upcoming fourth and penultimate issue their G.I. Joe limited series Duke.

Duke #4 arrives at the end of March from writer Joshua Williamson, artist Tom Reilly, and colorist Jordie Bellaire. The issue features a main cover by Reilly, as well as variant covers by Andrei Bressan with Adriano Lucas, Tyler Boss with Jason Wordie, Taurin Clarke, and Ben Oliver. At this time, Skybound has also shared three unlettered interior pages — which spotlight the Energon Universe debut of the organization known as M.A.R.S.

An official synopsis for Duke #4 reads as follows: “Duke is close to discovering the truth about the alien robots that have landed on Earth. But who — or what — is M.A.R.S.?”

The Energon Universe brings a new status quo for G.I. Joe

Duke launched back in December as the first of four limited series that serve to introduce G.I. Joe characters to Skybound and Image‘s Energon Universe (a shared universe that also includes fellow Hasbro property Transformers and the Skybound-original Void Rivals). The series is currently running alongside Cobra Commander — also written by Williamson — which launched in January. Skybound promises that these limited series will “set the stage for a fresh new take on G.I. JOE, Cobra and the iconic characters that you only think you know.”

Elsewhere in the EU, writer/artist Daniel Warren Johnson is currently five issues into his run on Skybound’s ongoing Transformers series. Meanwhile, Robert Kirkman and Lorenzo De Felici’s Void Rivals is due to return for issue #7 next Wednesday after going on hiatus back in November.

Duke #4 goes on sale Wednesday, March 27 from Image Comics.
